our history
The Society was formally established on 27th November 1952 through the cooperation of British Army civilian employees. It was originally known as the “Army Civilian Staff Co-operative Thrift and Loan Society, Limited”, under the leadership of its founding Chairman, the late Dr. S.J.H. Zaidi, alongside the late Senator Tuan Haji Ibrahim Yaakob.
When the British withdrew from Malaya, the Society became dormant, as most of its members lost their employment. In an effort to revive the Society and re-engage its former members, a group of dedicated individuals—including the late Dr. Syed Jafer Hussain Zaidi, the late Senator Ibrahim, the late Mr. Appukuttan, the late Mr. N.N. Nair, the late Dato’ Lee Ah Leng, and the late Mr. Devadass—took the initiative to reconnect with ex-members.
As a result of their efforts, a new cooperative was formed and registered on 19th June 1968, under the name Agricultural Industrial Development Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. Later, on 8th August 1974, the Society’s name was officially changed—aligned with the Cooperative Act amendments—to its current name: Koperasi Serbaguna Pertanian Perusahaan Kemajuan Berhad, more commonly known as “Koperasi AID.”
Thanks to the strong leadership and unwavering support of its members, the Society continued to operate sustainably and actively. Despite earlier setbacks, it managed to maintain uninterrupted operations and consistently declared attractive dividends annually.
